New Photos

Here are some photos from the last Clothing Drive in Jersey City. 30° outside, but we had tons of donations and a huge crowd. Should have taken before & after photos. Definitely next time. Some patrons didn't mind us taking photos, however they asked that we don't show their faces. We can respect that! Thanks especially to those who donated warm coats and to a special "DIVA" in NYC who donated a ton of gear. Much appreciated.

Help For Haiti

Everyone we know are scrambling to find ways to help the victims of the earthquake that pretty much destroyed major areas of Haiti. Here are some ways to help:

• Text ‘Yéle’ to 501501 to donate $5 to Yéle Haiti. Your money will help with relief efforts. See more info at www.yele.org.

EVENT:
Saturday, January 16
Nuyorican Poet's Cafe
WORDS: Hip Hop Showcase & Open Mic.
236 East 3rd St NYC / 10pm
Bring food & clothes, or anything you can donate. We will be collecting donations all night long.

5th Column Charities sends it's prayers and blessings to the survivors.

Also, DO NOT donate money to places like The Red Cross (i.e. 9/11 & Katrina) 50% - 60% of their profit goes to "Admin Fees." Not right. So, make sure you know who you are donating your money to.

Be sure to stay in touch with news and your friends about the steps to take in their aid.

Peace be with you!

Haiti in our Hearts

We are planning to collect clothes & food for the victims of the earthquake which devastated Haiti. Stay tuned for more information. In the meantime, collect food and clothing and anything you can to help in their relief.

DO NOT SEND MONEY! 60% of funds that go to most large non-profits/foundations (aka Red Cross) are spent on "admin" fees. We DO NOT accept financial donations either. Think about the items you use everyday (toothbrushes, diapers, soap, water, socks, shoes, etc.) and donate what you can.

We are organizing our strategies at the moment and when we have agreed on our decision we will let you know.

Say a prayer and spread the love. Only WE can help each other.

Extra Day Added

Happy New Year everyone! We have great news! We'll be having a special food & clothing drive THIS SUNDAY (01/10/10)! We have accumulated a BUNCH of donations since November. And as you recall, the weather conditions forced us to cancel December's drive. So we've had to postpone. Since the weather looks good for Sunday (clear with a high of 30 degrees... but CLEAR!) come join us! We're not taking any chances considering the weather we've been having! We're grabbing any clear day we can get right now!

If you have anything to donate, contact us right away. If you live in the Northern NJ area or Manhattan, we can pick up your donations!

THANK YOU!

Weather Delays Clothing Drive

Well, seems mother nature hasn't really been on our side. Due to the massive blizzard, we'll have to cancel this month's clothing drive. This is heartbreaking for us because this is the month where we try to give the most. But just because we can't be there, doesn't mean you can't help out your community. Giving your time is the best gift you can give this season. Have a wonderful holiday season and very prosperous new year!

We will try to make up for our absence by possibly having a couple of clothing drives in January. Stay tuned!
Thanks!

Happy
Holidays!

November 2010 - Update

November came in with a big chill! Good thing we're going to have some warm coats and sweaters on hand for our drive this month. But we can always use more! We are also taking food donations and anything you can contribute for various families during the holiday season. Canned food items would be greatly appreciated. We could really use mens clothes too.

We know we're all stressed out over how we're going to feed our own families this season, but there's always a little something you can do to help make a difference for someone less fortunate. As always, if you would like to donate, please email us at 5thcolumncommunity@gmail.com

THANKSGIVING:
